SSY Pro Tips
Maximise your daughter education and marriage corpus
Opening at Birth vs Age 9 — Massive Difference
Opening SSY at birth (0 years) gives 21 years of compounding. Opening at the maximum allowed age of 9 gives only 12 years. Both require 15 years of contributions, but with birth opening, interest accrues for 21 years vs 12. The corpus difference: ~₹54L (birth) vs ~₹32L (age 9) for same investment.
Always Deposit Before April 5 for Full Quarter Interest
SSY interest is calculated on the minimum balance between the 5th and last day of each month. Depositing ₹1.5L on April 1 vs April 10 means the difference of one full month interest (₹1,025) on ₹1.5L at 8.2%. Over 15 years this timing tip alone saves ₹12,000–15,000.
SSY + Equity SIP = Guaranteed Base + Inflation-Beating Growth
SSY at 8.2% beats inflation conservatively but does not beat education inflation (12–15% for premium colleges). Use SSY as the guaranteed base (40% of education fund) and equity SIP as the growth engine (60%). This gives security from SSY and upside from equity for international or premium education.
